Construction improvements underway on 4th Street and Lions Club Park

GRAND ISLAND, Neb.— The City of Grand Island Public Works Department  notifies residents that construction for the 4th Street corridor from Eddy to Sycamore Streets has resumed. Construction will include curb ramp installation in accordance with the American with Disability Act (ADA), as well as select sidewalk replacement. Construction initially began in this area during the fall of 2016. Furthermore, curb ramp construction on 5th Street between Eddy and Sycamore Streets was completed in 2016.

Lions Club Park improvements began in the fall of 2016 and included the construction of the new basketball and futsal courts, sidewalk replacement, and curb ramp installation. Court surfacing is anticipated to be installed in the spring of 2017. Other future improvements to Lions Club Park include replacement of the existing playground equipment and the installation of a second futsal court, as funding becomes available.

The Lions Club Park and 4th Street curb ramps and sidewalk improvements were made possible by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the State of Nebraska.

Saul Ramos Construction, Inc. was awarded the construction contract. The total construction cost of the project is $720,165. The City of Grand Island’s cost will be $87,488.14 with CDBG funding the remaining $632,716.86. The city had local funds in adjacent projects which allowed the city to fully utilize the CDBG funds.
