Marlan Ferguson was appointed City Administrator for the City of Grand Island in December 2014. This is the second time Ferguson has held this position in Grand Island. Ferguson served as the City Administrator in Aurora, Neb., beginning in May 2013 and continued in that position until returning to Grand Island. Prior to serving as the Aurora City Administrator Ferguson was the President and CEO of the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation for ten years. Ferguson served as the City of Administrator for Grand Island from June 1999 until taking the position with Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation in May 2003. He also spent nine years as the City Manager of Sidney, Nebr., and was the South Platte Natural Resources Manager in Sidney for nine years.
Ferguson has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy from University of Nebraska at Lincoln and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Kearney State College. He was the NCMA president in 1996-97 and received both ICMA Program of Excellence Awards for Intergovernmental Cooperation in 1997 and the prestigious Mark E. Keane Award (OCMA) for Excellence in 1997.
Ferguson is a Vietnam veteran and member of many civic organizations. He and his wife, Glenda, have two grown children, Travis of Riverton Wyo, and Tara Rood of Cheyenne Wyo., and four grandchildren.
