One Book One Nebraska Book Discussion on "The Home Place" by Wright Morris

Edith Abbott Memorial Library’s Adult Summer Reading Program:

In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Wright Morris, the Nebraska Center for the Book has chosen The Home Place as the One Book One Nebraska featured selection for 2010.
Edith Abbott Memorial Library enthusiastically celebrates Write Morris’s “The Home Place” by presenting its Adult Summer Reading Program on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will be presented by Martha McGahan, president of the Lone Tree Literary Society.

Featured in the program will be a computer generated slide show highlighting the places of Wright Morris’ childhood and his artistic philosophy. Included will be several of his photographs along with quotes from his works.

The presentation will be followed by a group discussion of Morris and his novel “The Home Place”.
Please call the library at 308-385-5333, to register for this exciting Adult Reading Program or to inquire about more information. Participants will need to pick up a “special” book bag with a copy of the book to read in advance, along with a biography of Wright Morris, selected readings of Wright Morris and a walking tour of the Wright Morris Boyhood Home along with other familiar places referenced in Wright’s works.

Regarded as one of America’s most gifted novelists and photographers, participants may want to view the Wright Morris Exhibit at the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney, Nebraska. The exhibit is “They Spoke to Me, or Did Not Speak”, on display from April 20 – July 26, 2010.
