MendozaMaggie Mendoza

Year Elected to Office and Number of Terms Served:
Maggie Mendoza was elected to her second term in office to represent Ward 2 in December 2022. Maggie was appointed to office on February 23, 2021 to fill the term of Clay Schutz.

Education and Background:
Mendoza graduated from Sutton Public Schools in 2005. She attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 2008 with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration.

Place of Employment:

Mendoza has been employed with NRC Health since 2010.

Reason for Running for Public Office:

Mendoza wanted to become more involved in the community and be a voice for the citizens of Grand Island.

Family Members:

Mendoza is married to Sal Mendoza and they have three children, Madison, Macy and Salvador Jr.

 

Mark Stelk

Mark StelkYear Elected to Office and Number of Terms Served:
Mark Stelk was appointed to office by Mayor Jay Vavricek in 2014 and held the Ward 2 position for three years. Stelk was re-elected to council in 2016 and 2020.

Education and Background:
Stelk graduated from the University of Nebraska--Lincoln with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration.

Place of Employment:
Stelk is the owner of General Collection Company.

Community Activities and Organizations Currently Involved In:
Stelk is involved in a variety of community organizations including the Downtown Business Improvement District Board, Sunrise Rotary, CASA, Teammates, Third City Community Clinic, St. Francis Foundation, and the Goodwill Foundation.  Stelk is also a past board member of the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce and the Heartland United Way. Stelk is on the board at Grand Generation Center and is treasurer of Senior Citizens. He is president of Nebraska Collection Association and president elect of Sunrise Rotary. He is past treasurer of Presbyterian Church and Elder.

Reason for Running for Public Office:
Stelk decided to become involved in city government in order to serve the people of Grand Island.

Family Members:
Stelk is married to Wanda. They have three grown children, Scott, Kim, and Jennifer, and 8 grandchildren.
