Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele is in his first term as Mayor of Grand Island. Roger was first elected to the Grand Island City Council in 2014 and was elected Mayor in 2018.

Roger grew up in Bassett, Nebraska with a family background in agriculture. Roger attended Wayne State College and received a degree in Pre-Law Studies. He then attended Creighton University where he was awarded a Juris Doctorate in 1984. Roger and his wife, Liana, have two daughters, and many pets.

Mayor Steele’s priorities are maintaining the city of Grand Island’s financial stability, job creation and increasing the Grand Island economic engine.

Roger believes it takes principled leaders, not politicians, to provide a safer and stronger Grand Island and he has a proven commitment to bringing people together to develop solutions for our most pressing issues.

Grand Island is a city with a distinguished past and a great future, where citizens are heard, where development is done responsibly, and where families can thrive.

Our best days still lie ahead, if we dedicate ourselves to seeking the next big dream, while maintaining a steady focus on the fundamentals – jobs, police and fire protection, streets and infrastructure, great schools, and a safe quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Despite the pandemic, and by working together, we’ve come back stronger than ever.
