"Coming to the Plains: Latinx Stories of Immigration to Central Nebraska” uses oral histories to explore the experiences of Latinx immigrants to central Nebraska. The project is on display at the Grand Island Public Library until September 6th. The display is being sponsored by the Hall County Historical Society and SOMOSgi.
The display consists of 8 panels featuring Latinx immigrants that have moved to Nebraska and made Nebraska home. The display was developed by University of Nebraska faculty members Dr. Michelle Warren, Laurinda Weisse, and Jacob Rosdail, with assistance from UNK students working with Latinx immigrants to capture their oral histories. Grand Island community members: Noriberto and Ana Nolasco, Cecilia Madrigal and former resident Juan Guzman are featured in the display.
A reception will be held on Saturday, August 28th from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. to view the display. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be provided.
