Crimetime Book Club will discuss the 1973 murders of McCook residents Edwin and Wilma Hoyt as told in James W. Hewitt’s book “In Cold Storage: Sex and Murder on the Plains.”
In 1973, the small railroad town of McCook, Nebraska was shocked by the murder and dismemberment of two of its residents. After pieces of their bodies were found afloat on a nearby lake, Harold and Ena Noakes, also of McCook were charged with and pled guilty to the heinous crime. Hewitt’s book explores the motive behind the Hoyts’ murders using interviews with law enforcement, expert witnesses, the victims’ family members, and an exclusive interview with Harold Noakes himself—the only interview he ever granted.
The next Crimetime meeting will be January 20, 2024 and will be a discussion about all things Charles Starkweather, Nebraska’s most infamous serial killer.
