CERT Basic Training

Community Emergency Response Team Basic Training

Thursday Nights, 6:30 – 9:00

February 17-April 7

The Grand Island-Hall County Emergency Management Department will sponsor a Basic Training Course for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) at Grand Island City Hall on Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:00 pm starting on February 17 and ending with an exercise on April 7 at the Stuhr Museum.  This exercise will test the students’ skills and abilities through a simulated emergency event.

“The Stuhr Museum has been a valuable partner in CERT training for several years by hosting a number of disaster exercises in their Railroad Town,” stated Jon Rosenlund, Director of Emergency Management.  “The Museum provides an entire neighborhood of structures that present a realistic venue to test and train our volunteers.  It’s an innovative use of such a wonderful community resource and a unique opportunity for us.”

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. Using their training, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event and can take a more active role in preparing their community.

Participation in this course is free and open to the public, both adults and youth with parental permission. To register, contact the Emergency Management Department at 308-385-5360 or email beready@grand-island.com.

Members of the media interested in more information on this exercise are invited to contact the Emergency Management Department:
