The City of Grand Island Fire Department reminds citizens conditions are favorable for extreme fire danger as recent weather conditions have been dry and windy. The designated burn period will be from April 15 through Saturday, April 28, as set by the Grand Island City Council. The open burn periods will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. A Burn Permit will be required, as approved by City Council on 3/26/2012 with a fee of $10 and can be obtained by going to the fire adminstration suite located upstairs in City Hall, 100 E. First St., starting on Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 27, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only.
The Yard Waste site, which is located north of the Transfer Station at 5050 W. Old Potash Highway, accepts disposal of tree limbs, branches, grass and leaves for free. Residents may also dispose of these same items for free whenever the Yard Waste Site is closed for opreation by checking with the scale clerk at the main gate of the Transfer Station.
