The Heartland United Way will be rolling out the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in the Grand Island community on June 11th. The first public registration will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, 2013 at the Edith Abbott Memorial Library, 211 North Washington Street, Grand Island. United Way staff will be at the library from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. as well as from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
This free program provides one new, age-appropriate book in the mail every month to children from birth until their fifth birthday. The only requirements of the program are that the child be a resident of Hall, Hamilton Howard or Merrick County, and that they provide a valid address. The Heartland United Way believes that the Imagination Library program encourages parents to read to their children, which develops a strong foundation for learning. Even 15 minutes a day of reading to children can expose them to more than a million words per year. The Imagination Library program gives kids the opportunity love reading and books at a very early age. This program is made possible by the $35,000 grant given by Mike Morledge of Credit Management.
To help participants sign up, United Way Staff will be available at the library with a computer to complete registration online. There will also be hard copy registration forms that can be filled out and returned to the United Way.
