Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library, with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, will host percussionist Michael Fitzsimmons in an all-ages interactive musical program on Monday, July 1 at 10:30 a.m.
“Drums of the World” is comprised of all original compositions and arrangements by Michael Fitzsimmons, incorporating an exciting variety of drums from Cuba, West Africa, Central and South America; flutes from Brazil, China and Native America; pan pipes from Bolivia; and kalimbas from South Africa.
A performer, composer, and teacher with more than 30 years experience, Fitzsimmons regularly conducts workshops and assemblies in schools, amazing teachers by holding the attention span of kindergarteners all the way through high school students and engaging them in the marvels of rhythm, which is something he has known all his life.
“Drums of the World” is free and open to the public and is supported in part by the Nebraska Arts Council, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information about Michael Fitzsimmons, visit
