Engineered plans are required to be submitted to the Utilities Department or Building Department prior to installation of public or private lines, respectively, designed to supply fire hydrants or water based suppression systems. Along with the guidelines found in the link below, all water services supplying water based suppression systems must be flowed at a rate of 10 ft/sec. The Pitot Chart linked below can be used to determine the amount of water needed to flow to reach the desired velocity in piping. This flow "test" must be witnessed by the Grand Island Fire Department. The state certificate document is required to be completed, prior to the witness test, and signed and submitted to the Grand Island Fire Department immediately following a successful test. At the bottom of the second page, you are instructed to send to SFM office. This is to be ignored.
