Federal-Aid Transportation Project

Project Description
This project consists of construction of new storm sewer to improve drainage of recently reconstructed US Highway 30 (Second Street) from Tilden Street to Jefferson Street. New storm sewer will be constructed from storm sewer along US Highway 30 at Logan Street, Broadwell Avenue and Madison Street to the detention cell located at Broadwell Avenue and Division Street.

This storm sewer system will be built through existing neighborhoods, which will disrupt access and require some detouring of traffic. Temporary construction easements are necessary from properties to either reconstruct water services or portions of sidewalk to accommodate the installation of the new storm sewer system.

This project is made possible through funds provided by the Nebraska Department of Roads Surface Transportation Program and the Federal Highway Administration.

The $1,266,134 contract to construct the improvements was awarded to Van Kirk Sand and Gravel, Inc. of Sutton Nebraska on June 6, 2013.

Installation of storm sewer and construction of manholes started near the Wasmer Detention Cell in the fall of 2013.  Work ceased in November of 2013 for the winter.  On March 31, 2014, the project resumed when Broadwell Avenue was closed from Division Street to Second Street.  The project is expected to be completed in July of 2014.

**Deficient pavement panel replacement is scheduled to occur Spring 2015
