The City of Grand Island performs an annual asphalt maintenance program, which includes a mill and overlay of the existing asphalt roadways. 

The following locations were included in this project.

  • OLD POTASH HIGHWAY (ENGLEMAN ROAD TO NORTH ROAD)
  • STOLLEY PARK ROAD (LOCUST STREET TO STUHR ROAD)
  • STUHR ROAD (STOLLEY PARK ROAD TO BISMARK ROAD)
  • STUHR ROAD (BNSF RAILROAD TRACKS TO SOUTH OF HWY 30)
  • WHEELER AVENUE (18TH STREET TO CAPITAL AVE)

On April 12, 2022, via Resolution No. 2022-96, Gary Smith Construction Co., Inc of Grand Island, Nebraska was awarded a $852,351.23 contract for the 2022 Asphalt Maintenance Project; No. 2022-AC-1.

On September 27, 2022, via Resolution No. 2022-271, Grand Island City Council approved Change Order No. 1, at no cost, to allow additional time for project completion.

On November 22, 2022, via Resolution No. 2022-325, Grand Island City Council approved Change Order No. 2, in the amount of $10,464.37 to allow for additional driveway work on Stolley Park Road that was not anticipated in the bid specifications, as well as increased material costs for the additional asphalt mix to be placed on Wheeler Avenue.

On November 22, 2022, via Resolution No. 2022-326, Grand Island City Council approved the Certificate of Final Completion for Asphalt Maintenance; Project No. 2022-AC-1 in the total amount of $910,877.36.
