Diffuser membranes in the Aeration Basins are replaced annually as part of regularly scheduled maintenance.  The City of Grand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant's Aeration Basin contains four (4) sub-basins, at least two (2) of which are active at any given time.  Each year, the diffuser membranes in one (1) basin are replaced, the air nozzles are cleaned, then reassembled to ensure reliability, avoid service interruption, and more evenly distribute the cost of maintenance.

On April 26, 2022, via Resolution No. 2022-119, Grand Island City Council awarded a $25,125.00 contract to JCI Industries, Inc. of Lee Summit, Missouri.

On January 10, 2023, via Resolution No. 2023-9, Grand Island City Council approved the Certificate of Final Completion for Diffuser Replacement; Project No. 2022-WWTP-2 in the total amount of $27,522.11.
