This project will allow for the construction of Cell 4, which will eliminate the need for the current storm water pumps at the landfill and increase the life of the landfill by up to 26 years.  The current cells 1, 2, and 3 have approximately 18 years of life remaining.

On January 23, 2024, via Resolution No. 2024-17, City Council approved engineering services for Cell 4 liner construction for the Grand Island Regional Landfill with Olsson, Inc. of Grand Island, Nebraska in the amount of $135,132.00.
