Lift Station No. 17, originally designed and built in 1970, is nearing the end of its useful life.  While there have been several upgrades over the years, the lift station is no longer able to keep pace with growing demand and would better serve the City of Grand Island if it were moved to a new location.  The prohibitive cost of further retrofits combined with anticipated future growth in the part of the City served by Lift Station No. 17 makes further upgrades less cost effective than relocating and rebuilding it.

On June 8, 2021, via Resolution No. 2021-132, City Council approved an agreement with Olsson, Inc. of Grand Island, Nebraska in the amount of $121,000.00 for engineering consulting services.
