Vehicle Impound Information

If your vehicle has been impounded by the Grand Island Police Department or the Hall County Sheriff’s office, you should contact the Grand Island Police Department’s Records office at 308-385-5400

The Grand Island Police Department is located at:
111 Public Safety Drive, Grand Island NE 68801
Business Office Hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

The Grand Island Police Impound Lot is located at:
510 South Stuhr Road
Impound is open Monday thru Friday Noon- 4:00pm(no new business after 3:45pm)

If you are interested in obtaining a vehicle release, the following conditions must be met: 

  1. You must be the registered or legal owner of the vehicle. 

  2. If the registered owner is not available to pick up the vehicle, they can sign a “Limited Power of Attorney” form that must be notarized. This form is available at the Grand Island Police Department. The original form must be presented at the Police Department and Impound Lot.

  3. The vehicle must be currently registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

  4. You must have a valid driver’s license or bring a licensed driver with you.

  5. You must provide a valid insurance card, valid identification, and vehicle registration.

  6. The tow and impound fees must be paid at the Grand Island Police Department in advance and you will need to produce a copy of the receipt at the impound lot. All fees must be paid with cash or credit card. No checks are accepted.
