Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department received a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety/NDOT for officers to work proactive overtime enforcement, specifically identifying people not wearing seatbelts.
The effort was designed to increase seatbelt usage and reduce the number of people injured in motor vehicle crashes. During the operational period of the grant that ran from November 23 through December 1, GIPD conducted a total of 512 traffic stops.
People physically arrested were charged with 191 criminal and traffic violations while officers also issued 277 citations and an additional 276 warnings. Buckle up and stay safe while driving this holiday season. We want everyone to make it to their destination safely.
