Street Lights on public streets in Grand Island are owned and maintained by the Grand Island Utilities Department.
Please contact us at (308) 385-5461 if there is a outage or issue with a street light.
Street Light Application
Upon request for a street light, the proposed location is reviewed and compared to surrounding street lights in the area to see if another street light may be added, meeting the spacing requirements. If a street light may be added, a petition will be sent to the requester to be signed by the residents affected by the street light.
Apply for a PUBLIC Street Light along a public street within the Grand Island city limits.
Security/Dusk-To-Dawn Lighting
An outdoor light provides dusk-to-dawn lighting, offering an extra measure of security for your home. Outdoor lighting that eliminates shadows can discourage prowlers and makes your property more secure. It also can expand the amount of time you are able to spend on recreational or maintenance activities after dark.
It's simple – you don't have to buy light fixtures, and you only pay for the electric service.
GIUD furnishes, installs, owns and maintains the security light, which is mounted on a power pole near your home.
The lights will operate automatically each night from dusk to dawn.
Apply for a PRIVATE Dusk to Dawn Light located in an alley or private lot within the GIUD Service Area.
