Water Storage Facilities

Elevated Storage Tank

In November 2018, the Grand Island water department added a 2 million gallon elevated water storage tank to the city water system.  The water tower was named after Robert Olson, Utility Director 1975 – 1986.  The new tank will provide water during those peak demand periods and maintain water pressure if power is lost to the pumping stations. Today, the water pressure is maintained by three pumping stations, each station is supplied from two electrical power sources providing a reliable source of water.

As Grand Island grows, there are more customers that use water, and our system needs to grow to meet the new demand.  The elevated water storage tower provides additional storage and maintains the water pressure during a power loss.  You can see Olson Water Tower off of Engleman Road, just south of Old Potash, proudly displaying the Grand Island logo.
