Grand Island, Neb. — Grand Island is another officer stronger after the swearing in of Officer Jason Derr on Friday, August 16.
Derr is a Grand Island native, and is excited to begin field training with his fellow officers. Derr along with several other officers across Nebraska graduated from the Law Enforcement Training Academy to conclude four months of learning and training.
“We’re proud of Officer Derr for his completion of the academy,” GIPD Police Chief Kevin Denney said. “We’re now looking forward to the next eight.”
Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele and City Administrator Laura McAloon also attended the ceremony. In fact, it was Mayor Steele who swore Officer Derr into service. Following four more months of field training, Officer Derr will be a fully-serving member of the police department.
