Fire Operations and Training
The Operations and Training Division is dedicated to insure that all members receive and maintain the best training that is available and deliver the best services possible to the citizens of Grand Island.
We pride ourselves on the quality and diversity of training that is provided to the members of the department. The Training Division achieves this by utilizes both in-house instructors and hosting nationally recognized instructors to insure the very best training. This training translates into quality fire, medical, and rescue services.
Training begins on the first day a recruit reports for duty and continues until retirement. New recruits attend a six week academy where they complete FFI training, along with training in: RIC, EVOC, NIMS, Tech Rescue Awareness, Haz Mat Awareness, and EMS protocols. Once on shift members expand their training into one of the specialty teams that include Tech and Heavy Rescue, Haz Mat, and ARFF.
