Fire Pits

Can I burn in a fire pit or appliance constructed for open burning?  Do I need a permit?  Please read the city ordinance and the pamplet provided by the Fire Department to determine if you need a permit or not to be able to burn from a pit.  Outdoor recreational fires have specific requirements set by city council and enforced by the fire and police department.

Outdoor patio appliances are not allowed on patios and balconies of multifamily dwellings.  All flame producing appliances (including flame producing cooking devices) are prohibited in this situation.

State Law prohibits fires if weather situations indicate a greater hazard or fires that cause a nuisance.  This is a difficult standard to enforce, but please be aware that we will, if called to an open fire situation and discover a clear hazard or nuisance, extinguish the fire.  This is true under legal as well as permitted situations and could result in future prohibition from open burning
