Alley Maintenance
Alley Maintenance
The City of Grand Island Streets Division currently maintains 645 blocks of alleys.
Maintenance Procedure
Unpaved alley grading is normally completed by using the following procedures. The operator loosens the surface material with a cutting blade. Once the material is loose the operator works it from side to side filling all voids and reestablishing a smooth and drainable surface. On occasion it becomes necessary to add fill material, usually asphalt grindings. When adding this material, the operator will wind-row the surface material to one side, place the asphalt grindings where they are needed, then proceed with re-establishing the finished surface.
Service Requests
Unpaved alley grading is preformed when requested. A service request may be submitted to the Streets Division for an unpaved alley to be maintained. This work is usually completed within two weeks from the time of request.
Additional gravel must be purchased individually or collectively by the abutting property owners. Once the gravel is in the alley we can come and spread it out if requested.
Grading requests can be made by contacting the Streets Division at 308-385-5322
