Contractor Licensing

Overview

Contractor licensing is a function of the Grand Island Building Services Division. This function is in place to safeguard the health, safety, and public welfare of Grand Island and its citizens.

Contracting companies that provide Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Water Softener Installation, Sign Hanging, Wrecking, and/or Building Moving services must be licensed with the City Building Services Division to legally perform work in the Grand Island jurisdiction.

Additionally, individuals working as plumbers, mechanical fitters, electricians, and/or water softener installers must be individually licensed as a master, journeyman, or registered as an apprentice in their trade. The tradesperson must work under the supervision of a licensed contracting company to legally conduct work in the City of Grand Island jurisdiction.
