RE: 2022 ADA Curb Ramp Program Update
Dear Mr. Keith Kurz,
Update to the interoffice memorandum from Scott Johnson on American's with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Curb Ramp Transition Program dated February 27, 2008.
The City of Grand Island has constructed approximately 2,650 curb ramps since 2007. The installation of the curb ramps has been a combination of the City of Grand Island Public Works annual curb ramp projects, developer subdivision construction, capital improvement projects and federal-aid projects.
Program Cost
The City of Grand Island Public Work annual curb ramp program has constructed 1,122 curb ramps for a total construction cost of $1,813,384. The average cost to install one curb ramp is $1,915. The current budget for Public Works annual curb ramp project is $165,000. We have scheduled 1,720 curb ramps over the next 20 years with an additional 2,893 curb ramps yet to be scheduled. The City of Grand Island has identified 4,612 curb ramp that need to be constructed for a total present day cost of $8,832,000.
The total cost to construct for this program over the 50 years with 3.50% inflation will be approximately $23,858,000.
Program Priority
The City of Grand Island will continue to prioritize curb ramp installation based on the following criteria:
ļ»æļ»æļ»æCitizen requests have been and will continue to be collected and included in the following year annual curb ramp project.
ļ»æļ»æļ»æAll new construction will require curb ramp installation on capital improvement projects and subdivision development.
ļ»æļ»æļ»æCurb ramps will be programmed following asphalt overlay and concrete repair projects.
ļ»æļ»æļ»æSchool locations have been a main focus of the past 10 years and are fairly complete.
ļ»æļ»æļ»æParks and recreation facilities.
ļ»æļ»æļ»æArterial and collector corridor.
ļ»æļ»æļ»æResidential streets.
Sincerely,
Tim Golka,
Project Engineer
