National Night Out

Grand Island, Neb. — From 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, the Grand Island Police Department will be taking part in “National Night Out.”

Not only will officers be stopping by any registered block parties through the police department, but several of Grand Island’s finest will also be featured at a community National Night Out event on South Locust St.

Venues on South Locust will be hosting the event at 1607 South Locust Street and will be serving hot dogs, chips and water for $8. Anything from an Apollo helicopter to a GIPD Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle will be on display for the public, and it’s all in an effort to show the more human side of the officers who serve the Grand Island community.

“From this event, we met up with people we used to deal with who got involved positively with our community,” said GIPD Officer Jason Wood. “It’s a way to build bridges and bond things that couldn’t have happened before. It’s just a great event to get everybody on the same page.”
