Mechanical Examining Board 

Section 18-17 of the Grand Island City Code establishes the duties of the Mechanical Examining Board.  The purpose of the Mechanical Examining Board shall be to establish standards and procedures for the qualification, examination, and licensing of master and journeymen gas fitters and shall issue an appropriate license to each person who meets the qualifications thereof and successfully passes the examination given by the Examining Board. 

The Mechanical Examining Board shall be comprised of seven members appointed annually by the Mayor and approved by a majority of the City Council.  The seven members shall consist of the following:  Chief Building Official or his/her designee; one member from the local gas company; one contracting master gas fitter; one member from the community; and three members which shall be either master gas fitters or journeymen gas fitters.

Meetings are held as needed in the late afternoons in the Building Department Conference Room at City hall.
