Grand Island, Neb. — Due to the City of Grand Island’s snow removal efforts, a downtown parking ban is being issued from 12 a.m. (midnight) on Thursday, March 20 and will run until 12 p.m. Thursday.
The City of Grand Island will be clearing and hauling snow in the Downtown area overnight. Businesses in the downtown areas are asked to have sidewalks cleared before the hauling operation begins. To facilitate the snow clearing and hauling operation, parking on the downtown area streets listed below will be prohibited during the parking ban:
Division Street between Locust Street and Walnut Street
1st Street between Cedar Street and Sycamore Street
2nd Street between Cedar Street and Sycamore Street
3rd Street between Clark Street and Kimball Avenue
4th Street between Eddy Street and Beal Street
South Front Street between Walnut Street and Kimball Avenue
6th Street between Vine Street and Plum Street
Elm Street between 2nd Street and Union Pacific Railroad
Cedar Street between 1st Street and Union Pacific Railroad
Walnut Street between Division Street and 5th Street
Wheeler Avenue between Koenig Street and 5th Street
Locust Street between Koenig Street and 5th Street
Pine Street between 1st Street and 6th Street
Sycamore Street between First Street and Fifth Street
The Grand Island Utilities Department is also announcing that they will be ceasing power restoration efforts at 9 p.m. tonight. Crews have been out restoring power in the city since the early morning hours of Wednesday, and will resume restoration efforts at the first sign of daylight on Thursday, March 20. Sunrise is currently projected for 7:36 a.m.
